Types of FSSAI Food Licenses
Basic License
A food business with an annual turnover under 12 lakhs falls in this category. Businesses in these categories should apply for a basic FSSAI license. Businesses of all sizes, including food manufacturers, marketers, retailers, storage units, distributors, etc., are able to register.
State License
A food business with a turnover of 12 lakhs to 20 crores operating within one state falls into this category. SMEs involved in the food sector, including food processing, storage, marketing, distribution, and storage units, are eligible for state registration. Regardless of their turnover, all cereal, pulse, and grain milling units in the state must obtain a license from the FSSAI.
Central License
Companies that operate in more than one state and generate more than 20 crores in turnover should seek central FSSAI licensing. To obtain a central food grade certificate, food importers, large-scale food processors, exporters, operators of government agencies, seaports, airports, and others have to do so.
